Month One | Newborn Essentials + Giveaway

Spread the love

One thing I noticed after having my second child is that I don’t remember what my monthly essential items were with my first child. Moms, don’t all the months seem to run together looking back, or is that just me? So, I thought I’d create our month to month essentials and favorites for the newborn stage and up.  This is definitely something I’ll be referencing if we decide to have another baby and I hope it helps y’all too if needed!

Southern Made Blog - Month One Newborn Essentials

  1. Bouncer This is something I have had since Harper and it has really come in handy! I love how light and portable it is.  Plus, it’s great from the newborn stage and up!
  2. Covered Goods Nursing Cover This was new to me with our second baby.  Can I just say how fabulous this cover is?! This is a MUST HAVE! It is SO versatile! It can be used as a nursing cover, buggy cover, and a car seat cover.  I’m sure you could use it as something else too. If you have a baby and don’t have this, go buy it. You won’t regret it!
  3. Baby Bathtub Hello, captain obvious here! You know you need a bathtub, but there are lots out there.  This is one I’ve had since Harper and love it! I love the net in that it’s gentle and perfect for your growing newborn.  Plus, it can be removed so it can be used as they grow.  Love it!
  4. Honest Company Shampoo & Body Wash New this time around and my current obsession for both of my boys.  It smells heavenly and is the safest thing I can put on them when it comes to washing their hair and body!
  5. SwaddleSure by Halo This is another current obsession.  Do you ladies swaddle your babes? If not, you should!  Swaddling is a great way to soothe and calm a fussy baby by giving him a feeling of security, similar to being in the womb. It keeps them warm and helps them sleep longer! Ummm…yes! Where do I sign up, right?!  The thing that’s great about the SwaddleSure verses receiving blankets is that they can’t escape! Plus, those diaper changes in the night are easy peasy thanks to the pouch that opens up at the bottom.
  6. Newborn Gowns Gowns are yet one more thing that makes your life easier during those nightly feedings and diaper changing sessions.  Plus you can keep them swaddled on top because there is no unzipping involved! Another wonderful thing about gowns is they won’t irritate the umbilical cord while it’s trying to detach.
  7. Newborn hats Did you know heat escapes from the top of their head? This was news to me with my first baby.  So keeping a hat on that first month helps ensure that sweet little thing stays warm and toasty.  These BabyGap ones are my fav and oh, so cute!
  8. Portable bed This is our first-time co-sleeping and I must say, it’s awfully convenient.  I read tons of reviews and checked out numerous products and this is the one we decided to get.  I love it! It’s worked great to have in the middle of my husband and I without the fear of rolling over.  The sides are sturdy and it’s super comfy for the little one. AND you can take it anywhere, which is perfect for traveling or the park or wherever your heart desires.
  9. Baby blanket  I have several of these from Target and we love them! I’m pretty sure we held Rohen all the time during the first month of his life.  These blankets are great to throw over them when they’re snuggled up on your chest.
  10. Momaroo Bouncer This was a new purchase for baby #2 and I AM IN LOVE! I’m sure you’ve heard about it! It’s all the rage and for good reason! It moves like you would if you were trying to settle a baby.  Harper hated the traditional swing so I decided to try the Momaroo with Rohen and he loves it!
  11. Baby wipe warmer This is a new purchase and I definitely recommend it!  It’s especially great at the night because it helps them from being alarmed from cold diaper changes.
  12. Solly Baby Wrap If you follow me on Instagram, it should be no surprise this is one of my all time favorites!  I discovered this wrap when Harper was about 6 months old.  I love it so much more than the Moby wrap because it’s a thinner fabric, which is great because there’s a lot of body heat going on when you’ve got a baby stuck to your chest.  I get so much more done if I’m baby wearing.  He loves it!

These are my top 12 newborn picks and I’d love to give one away to an amazing reader! So,  I’ve teamed up with Halo for a SwaddleSure by Halo Giveaway!!  This thing is seriously amazing! Rohen just loves it and they have different sizes depending on your little one.  Make sure to enter to win below!! Good luck!

This is a great idea, because its so true, you need different things at different stages – I really love the collection you’ve put together for 1 month. I will need to refer to this for sure.

✨Come along with me for a Chemical Peel with @_s ✨Come along with me for a Chemical Peel with @_sundayskin_ in Brentwood. Check out my stories for more details from @caroline.tingquist.np ✨

If you don’t know anything about chemical peels, you’re going to have some downtime after it due to the peeling. This was my first one and I was a little nervous if I’m being honest. 🙈 This particular peel was the most intense one that Sunday Skin offers. To my surprise, the process really wasn’t bad at all. It’s was pretty warm on my face immediately after but the fan helped tremendously.

My top layer of skin definitely peeled but it wasn’t crazy. I wish y’all could have felt the skin on my face after it healed! 🙌🏼 😍 It was glowing and the texture was so much better. The benefits from this treatment are endless! I’ll forever praise microneedling and chemical peels because of how they transform my skin.

Nashville friends, you have to go check them out. Be sure to watch the “Sunday Skin” story highlight I’ve got saved with all the deets.

✨Ok, ladies! I want to know what is your favorite skincare treatment you’ve ever had?✨
Before the chaos of summer and our move happened, Before the chaos of summer and our move happened, we escaped to Mexico for a little vaca just the two of us. 🏝☀️

What a great trip to start this new chapter of our lives. We had uninterrupted time for each other. I started reading again and made it through two books. We got some serious vitamin D and put our phones down. Quite frankly, it was glorious.

Do y’all find that the longer you’re away from social media the harder it is to come back? Disconnecting feels sooooo good and it gives you perspective. So, if you haven’t seen me on here much… that’s why.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the rat race of social media. Especially when you run it as a business and feel the pressure to try and jump through IG’s hoops to get in front of the people who actually follow you and want to see your content. It’s a mental game that’s not fun to play. I miss the days where you could post freely. Without hashtags or any other tactics to get your picture in friends’ feed. Without wondering if the time of day is good to hit publish. Without wondering if you’ll get the likes and comments because that’s what helps you get jobs. It’s exhausting.
** My blogger friends will feel me deeply on this.

BUT what I do love about modern technology and these apps is the connection it’s brought me. I’ve got friends all over the US and these things keep me connected. They let me feel like I’m still a part of their lives from afar. It’s also allowed me to “meet” so many of you sweet IG friends. I’ve really enjoyed that aspect of this community over my 7 years on this app.

So if you follow me and happen to scroll across this today, thank you for being here.🤍 Truly.

Say hi in the comments or shoot me a DM. Talking with y’all and building relationships has always been my favorite thing about this space!
One of my favorite family traditions is our beach One of my favorite family traditions is our beach trip every summer. I love to see the change in my sweet boys each year with these photos. Time is truly a thief. #santarosabeach #30a

Something I made sure to do before leaving Nashvil Something I made sure to do before leaving Nashville was to get my brows redone and get lip blushing. I’m the kind of girl that loves to simplify where I can. The best thing about permanent makeup is that it helps you do just that. I don’t have to pencil in my brows anymore and all I wear is clear gloss. 😍🙌🏼 Obsessed is an understatement!

I was so excited to meet Lex (@cosmeticallyinkedbylex) and get in her chair! We picked a color for my lips and she did a color correction and powder brow. I’m so excited to share my results with y’all. I’ve had so many people asking where I got them done and…

✨SURPRISE!! Lex wanted to give one of you a free session!! ✨

Hey, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve sha Hey, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve shared anything on here. The past few months have flown by insanely fast since announcing that we were moving to Louisiana.

With a major transition happening with our family, I decided to put my phone down. I’ve spent the last few months spending time with my family, designing a new home build, packing our house, soaking in everything we loved in Franklin/Nashville, and being present.

To be honest, it’s all been a bit overwhelming. I moved so much throughout my life and have lived in many houses. As I began to truly process this move, I realized the gravity of leaving our home behind. We built it in seven years ago and brought 2 of my babies home here. It’s the longest house I’ve ever lived in and it was with MY family.

When all the boxes were gone, I walked through the rooms and around the house remembering all of the memories through each stage of our life over the years. I tried to take it all in, to freeze those moments in my mind knowing it was the last time I’d be in that house.

Walking out the front door one last time was the hardest thing I’ve done in a long time. I’m so thankful God brought us back here for a short time and all that came along with it. Many sweet memories were made on this porch and within these walls. This photo will always be one of my favorites. It signifies the close to this chapter of our lives in Franklin. I’m leaving a small bit of my heart here. We sure will miss you, Tennessee. ❤️
